About FLOWEL
Where summer has a name of its own
Miguel. From Alicante, an engineer, a basketball player. Almost four years living between Ibiza and Palma. An island without tourists and completely empty, a ritual of afternoons climbing to Dalt Vila, a new city to discover street by street, and a nearly century-old factory in Bañeres de Mariola. This is how FLOWEL was born.
But the story begins earlier. Much earlier.
Miguel. Engineer, traveler, and creator of FLOWEL.
Miguel doesn't fit into a single profile. Born in Alicante, with roots in Jaén, and a Mediterranean by choice. An engineer by training, passionate about fashion by conviction, and a basketball player for CB Maristas in Alicante by vocation. Two jobs, one team, and an idea that took years to take shape.
Miguel's sensitivity to fabrics and style didn't come from nowhere. In his father's family, with roots in Jaén, his great-uncle ran Dueñas Tailors in Linares—a tailor shop with a well-established reputation in the city. The smell of freshly cut fabric, the patterns on the table, the pride in doing things well. Perhaps that's where, without realizing it, it all began.
The world as a school of color and texture
Miguel moved around a lot for work. And in each destination he did the same thing: he looked at the fabrics. He looked at the colors. He observed how people valued their own things.
Almost a year in Egypt —the markets of Cairo, the cotton piled high in Khan el-Khalili, the colors of the Nile at sunset. A summer in Morocco —the souks of Marrakech, natural dyes, textile crafts transformed into street art.
But there was one day he'll never forget. He was in Italy visiting the Amalfi Coast when he detoured to a little-known town called Ravello . Standing atop the cliff, with the Mediterranean plunging vertically into the sea and lemon trees clinging to the rock, he understood something Italians have been doing instinctively for centuries: valuing what is theirs. Cherishing their identity. Transforming the local into something the world desires.
There, gazing down at the Mediterranean, he thought of Ibiza. Of Alicante. Of Bañeres. Of everything that Spain has but doesn't always know how to talk about.
FLOWEL is, among other things, his way of telling it.
The four moments that define FLOWEL
The first one. Formentera, Holy Week 2021.
The islands had been without tourists for months. One of those circumstances that doesn't repeat itself — and which gave Miguel something that is normally impossible: the entire island of Formentera to himself.
He took a bicycle at the port and started pedaling. Alone. In silence. From the port to the La Mola Lighthouse , passing through Ses Salines and Es Caló —that fishing village with boats beached on the rocks and time standing still. April. Good weather. The sea calm, the paths empty, the colors of the island without the background noise that usually drowns everything out.
When he reached the lighthouse, he stopped. From up there, with the Mediterranean stretching out in every direction, Miguel stared for a while. He can't quite explain what he thought—he says the image was too powerful. But something settled that day. A quiet certainty that he had to do something with everything he'd been carrying inside.
A unique moment that is in the DNA of every FLOWEL piece.
The second one. Dalt Vila, end of 2022.
When Miguel finished his construction job, he didn't go home. He put on his sneakers and climbed up to Dalt Vila . Three or four times a week, at 7 or 8 in the evening, alone, crossing the walls until he reached the very top, where the cathedral stands. An hour's walk, sometimes two. All of Ibiza unfolding below him—the port, the sea, the light that at that hour turns everything to gold.
It wasn't tourism. It was his way of thinking. Of unwinding. Of letting ideas slowly take shape, without forcing them. Up there, looking at that city that has remained the same for centuries, he began to give a name to something that had been on his mind for some time: to create a brand that would reclaim the classic. Lost elegance. The true Mediterranean. Without excess, without artifice. Simply beautiful.
On the way down, I went back home to the Marina Botafoc port. And the next day, again.
The third one. Palma de Mallorca, 2023.
In 2023, Miguel moved to Palma. And he traded Dalt Vila for something different—the Baluarte del Rei , the Gothic Cathedral , the medieval walls, the Renaissance courtyards, the Modernist buildings. A city built in layers—Roman, Muslim, Gothic, Modernist—where every street holds a different story.
If Ibiza gave FLOWEL its soul, Palma gave it its dimension. A cosmopolitan and elegant city that Miguel discovered from top to bottom, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood. A city that has been itself for centuries without needing to pretend. Simply beautiful. Simply Mediterranean.
Exactly what I wanted FLOWEL to be.
The fourth. A factory in Bañeres de Mariola, 2023.
From the beginning, Miguel was clear about it: he wanted to manufacture in Spain. Not on a whim—out of conviction. He wanted the brand to embody the true value of being "Made in Spain ," to champion our heritage, to demonstrate that things can be done well here. And then he thought a step further: what if we also manufacture in Alicante? Where I'm from. Where I've lived most of my life.
Through a family friend, they were put in touch with several manufacturers in the area. There were meetings, visits, and conversations. And among them all, one stood out: a family-run factory in Bañeres de Mariola , an inland town in Alicante that has been steeped in textiles for generations. Almost a hundred years of history within its walls.
When he first walked in, he knew it was the place. He didn't find a supplier—he found a partner. People who understand fabrics the way Miguel understands design. Who share the same obsession with doing things right. Who don't manufacture for FLOWEL, but with FLOWEL.
From the Dueñas Tailor Shop in Linares to a nearly century-old factory in Bañeres. The thread — literal and figurative — that connects two generations and a shared understanding of the craft.
Ibiza as a muse
The sunsets at Cala Saladeta . The white rocks of Ses Illetes . The vibrant urban atmosphere of Figueretes . Places that need no introduction for those who know them, and that become an inevitable destination for those who haven't yet discovered them.
These places are the soul of the first collection — The IBIZA & Formentera Collection — designed with an eye on those summers of the 80s and 90s. When style was an attitude, not a trend. When you didn't need excess to be elegant. When a towel wasn't just a product — it was a statement.
